Ecco alcune delle leggende metropolitane più diffuse su uno strumento in grado di offrire numerosi e diversi vantaggi sia sia a voi che al vostro amico a quattro zampe: il guinzaglio pettorina non permette un corretto sviluppo fisico nei cuccioli, il guinzaglio pettorina mette a rischio le articolazioni e fa crescere le zampe storte, il guinzaglio pettorina è adatta solo a cani di piccola taglia, il guinzaglio pettorina causa dermatiti e irritazioni, con il guinzaglio pettorina il cane tira di più, e chi ne ha più ne metta.
In queste frasi non c'è nulla di reale, e se qualcosa corrisponde non dipende certo dal guinzaglio pettorina in sé, quanto dal cane o dalla tipologia di prodotto utilizzato.
Prima di proseguire però, è importante chiarire che stiamo parlando del guinzaglio pettorina ad H , cioè quello più presente in commercio e quello che tutti i veterinari raccomandano.
Da non confondere con il modello scapolare, fatto a 8, spesso realizzato solo per un fine estetico di bellezza ma dannoso per l'animale, quello che si infila facendo passare le zampe anteriori e si chiude sopra le spalle.
Il guinzaglio pettorina ad H si infila come un collare e ha due fettucce che si appoggiano lungo la schiena e sotto lo sterno del cane, agganciate a loro volta ad altre due fettucce che si chiudono ai lati della gabbia toracica. ( Per semplificare, è quello che si vede nell'immagine ) .
In questo modo indossarla è senza dubbio più semplice e meno invasivo, e si evitano strofinamenti fastidiosi all'attacco delle zampe.
L'aggancio per il guinzaglio si trova nella parte posteriore, in asse con il baricentro del cane. Questo significa che nel caso il vostro cane tiri regolarmente o per un imprevisto, sarà necessaria molta meno forza per trattenerlo, un vantaggio da non sottovalutare per la salute delle vostre articolazioni e anche quelle del cane.

Noterete che prima o poi il collo dell'animale verrà sottoposto a una trazione, e questo perchè anche il padrone più calmo e premuroso, involontariamente, potrebbe cambiare direzione all'improvviso o continuare a camminare senza accorgersi che si suo cane si era fermato ad annusare qualcosa.
Ora provate ad immaginare quante volte potrà succedere nell'arco della vita di un cane... non credete anche voi che il vostro amico a quattro zampe meriti un'attenzione e un rispetto maggiori?

Personalmente uso tutti e due gli strumenti, premettendo che i miei cani sono di grossa taglia e tirano tantissimo.
Uso il collare per brevi tragitti dove conosco la strada e so cosa possiamo incontrare, mentre per tutti gli altri spostamenti mi trovo molto meglio con il guinzaglio pettorina, e non solo mi trovo meglio io, ma ho notato che la piccola di casa, che normalmente negli ambienti che non conosce è un pò spaventata, con il collare pettorina si muoveva con più disinvoltura, come se avere qualcosa intorno al corpo che l'abbraccia le dia maggiore sicurezza.
