Con il Natale come ogni anno migliaia di famiglie tra i regali da mettere sotto l'albero scelgono un cucciolo.
Spesso però, quella che potrebbe essere l'occasione per dare una seconda possibilità ad un animale che vive da recluso, come un cane o un gatto ospite in un rifugio, diventa un momento di rinnovato pensiero sbagliatissimo da parte dell'uomo, in quando lo considera come un oggetto e si pensa quindi di avere il diritto di acquistarlo.
Il primo momento in cui si pone la relazione con l'animale sul piano sbagliato, perchè non rispettoso del valore della sua vita, proprio quello in cui si device di comprarlo.
Le forme di business e lucro sulla pelle degli animali nate per rispondere alla grande domanda di cuccioli di cane e gatto sono molteplici, ma quelle con le quali è più facile venire in contatto sono i negozi di animali e gli allevamenti.
A molti sarà capitato di essere trascinati davanti alla vetrina di un negozio di animali da un bambino innamorato dei cucciole che giocano in vetrina. Ma vi siete chieste da dove arrivano quei cuccioli?
Fondamentalmente da due canali: traffici illegali oppure allevamenti.
La maggioranza dei cuccioli che arrivano nel nostro paese dall'Est Europa sono piccolissimi, di 30 o 40 giorni e terrorizzati. Viaggiano per ore interminabili, rinchiusi in spazi angusti come scatoloni o borse, con documenti falsi che attestano quasi sempre un'età diversa da quella reale.
Un cucciolo acquistato all'estero costa economicamente fino a venti volte meno del suo corrispettivo nostrano. E' quindi facile comprendere perchè molti negozianti scelgano di prendere questa strada.
I cuccioli provenienti da allevamento a conduzione famigliare o da vere "fabbriche sforna cuccioli", strutture fatiscenti che ospitano femmine adibite solo alla riproduzione, rinchiuse in box piccolissimi, senza possibilità di uscire all'aperto, con pochissimo cibo a disposizione. Spesso queste fattrici, obbligate a portare avanti innumerevoli gravidanze, sono malate e sofferenti.
Ovviamente i controlli sanitari non sono la priorità degli individui senza scrupoli che gestiscono questi traffici illegali. Il precoce distacco dalla madre può causare ai cuccioli sia problemi comportamentali che di salute. Privi delle difese immunitarie, possono così contrarre malattie mortali, come il cimurro, o perfino la rabbia, pericolosa anche per l'uomo.
La separazione dei cuccioli dalla madre non dovrebbe avvenire prima dei 60 giorni di età proprio per l'importanza fondamentale che ha questa fase nello sviluppo del cucciolo. Nei negozi i cuccioli arrivano di circa 35-40 giorni di età, quindi questo vuole dire che il distacco è avvenuto molto prima di quanto dovrebbe essere concesso dalla natura.
Gli stress del distacco e del viaggio creano un abbassamento delle difese immunitarie dei cuccioli, i continui contatti tra numerosi soggetti di cucciolate diverse favorisce l'instaurarsi di gravi patologie di naturale virale e parassitaria, che causano il decesso di una cospicua percentuale dei cuccioli.
Quando la malattia e il decesso avvengono durante i passaggi importatore-grossista-negoziante si tratta di perdite di mercato ammortizzate dal basso costo di vendita.
Quando la malattia e il decesso avvengono quando il cucciolo si trova già nella nuova famiglia che lo ha acquistato possono diventare fonte di denunce, reclami, cause, che però purtroppo troppo spesso vengono messe a tacere con la sostituzione con un nuovo cucciolo.
Gli animali venduti nei negozi non provengono tutti dall'estero, ma anche da allevamenti, professionali, amatoriali o improvvisati, che nascono e commerciano nel nostro paese.
Si passa quindi dal privato che fa accoppiare il suo cane o gatto femmina, all'allevamento riconosciuto e certificato, dove, pur essendo rispettate tutte le norme, la sostanza non cambia. L'animale è una merce dalla quale trarre profitto. I cuccioli vengono venduti, non dati in adozione, quindi non viene fatta una valutazione sull'acquirente per verificare se effettivamente è la persona adatta per quel tipo di cane e se sarà in grado di accudirlo e gestirlo al meglio.
Molti animali comprati sull'onda dell'emotività e prestando attenzione solo a criteri estetici o all'idea che si ha di quella particolare razza, sono poi gli stessi che dopo qualche mese o anno finiscono nel box di un canile. Il motivo? Inadatti alla vita che conducono i proprietari o non corrispondenti alle loro aspettative.
Titti i canili e i gattili sono pieni e continuano a nascerne per cercare di fare fronte alla continua domanda di posti in cui accogliere cani e gatti senza famiglia.
La maggior parte degli animali che andrà ad occupare quei box e quelle gabbie non sono randagi, ma animali abbandonati da proprietari che li hanno acquistati con la stessa consapevolezza con la quale si acquista un elettrodomestico che dopo qualche mese viene dimenticato in un cassetto perchè non è più necessario.
La conclusione non può che essere quindi una triste domanda. Quale senso, se non il profitto, può avere continuare a fare nascere animali, quando le gabbie sono ancora piene di vecchi cuccioli, ormai adulti, che invecchieranno dietro le sbarre?

Gli animali vengono sempre più spesso trattati e considerati come oggetti, da persone che non hanno il minimo significato di cosa sia una vita. Le stesse persone che non hanno il minimo rispetto per la vita umana, non possono averne certo per la vita animale.

Tweety kennels and catteries are full and continue to nascerne to try to cope with the continuing demand for places to accommodate dogs and cats without a family .
Most of the animals that will occupy those boxes and the cages are not strays, but pets abandoned by owners who bought them with the same awareness with which you buy an appliance that is forgotten after a few months in a drawer because it is not longer needed.
The conclusion can therefore be a sad question . Which makes sense, if not profit, may have to continue to give birth to animals, the cages are still full of old puppies, now adults , who grow old behind bars ?
